My Bio

South Carolina does not need another round of education slogans—we need solutions. I am running for State Superintendent of Education because too many students are leaving school without a clear vision for their future, too many teachers feel unsupported, and too many parents feel decisions are being made around them instead of with them.

I have spent my life as an educator, institution builder, and advocate for children and families. I have worked directly with students, trained educators, built educational programs, and seen firsthand both what is broken in our system and what is possible when we give young people vision, structure, opportunity, and people who genuinely believe in them.

My campaign is about “solutionizing” education in South Carolina—strengthening academic foundations, supporting and retaining great teachers, connecting education to careers, trades and entrepreneurship, creating safe and focused learning environments, expanding opportunity for families, and making sure every education dollar produces results for our children.

I am not running to manage the same problems differently. I am running to help build an education system that prepares every South Carolina child not simply to pass a test, but to build a life.

My Key Issues

Vision Development & Student Success

South Carolina schools should prepare young people not only to pass tests, but to understand who they are, discover what they are capable of, and develop a clear vision for their future. As Superintendent, I will make Vision Development a central part of student success by promoting mentorship, goal-setting, leadership development, critical thinking, character, wellness, and career exploration alongside strong academics. Students should be challenged to build a personal Life & Leadership Plan that connects their education to college, a career, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, military service, community leadership, or other meaningful goals. We must measure success not only by test scores, but by whether our students are becoming knowledgeable, disciplined, confident, capable young adults prepared to build productive lives and contribute to their communities.

Teacher Recruitment, Retention & Empowerment

South Carolina cannot improve student outcomes without recruiting, supporting, and retaining excellent educators. As Superintendent, I will make teacher recruitment and retention a central priority of the Department of Education and advocate for competitive compensation through the state budget process. I will work to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens, expand meaningful professional development, strengthen teacher leadership opportunities, and give effective educators greater voice in improving our schools. Rural and high-need districts require targeted solutions including recruitment incentives, housing initiatives, mentorship, and stronger pipelines for developing educators from within their own communities. Our goal should not simply be to fill vacancies, but to build stable, respected, highly skilled teaching teams throughout South Carolina.

Literacy & Academic Mastery

Every South Carolina student deserves a strong academic foundation. I will prioritize early literacy, mathematics, science, writing, research, and critical thinking while ensuring struggling students receive intervention before learning gaps become long-term barriers. Academic success should mean more than test preparation—it should mean students can read with understanding, communicate clearly, calculate confidently, solve problems, research information, and apply what they learn to real life. We must give teachers the time, tools, curriculum, and support needed to build genuine mastery at every grade level.

Career & Industry Pathways: College, Trades, STEM & Entrepreneurship

South Carolina students should graduate with more than a diploma—they should graduate with a real pathway into adulthood. As Superintendent, I will strengthen partnerships among schools, technical colleges, universities, employers, apprenticeship programs, agriculture, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and other growth industries so students can connect classroom learning to real opportunities. I will support stronger career exploration, dual enrollment, industry credentials, work-based learning, paid apprenticeships, entrepreneurship, and STEM pathways beginning well before graduation. Our schools should prepare students for college, skilled trades, military service, business ownership, or direct entry into a career with the skills, experience, and confidence to succeed.

Rural Education Equity & Community Renewal

South Carolina’s rural students should not receive fewer opportunities simply because they live in communities with smaller tax bases, longer transportation routes, or greater difficulty recruiting teachers and specialists. As Superintendent, I will advocate for funding policies that recognize the real cost of operating small and high-need rural districts, while strengthening transparency and accountability for how those funds are used. I will promote regional partnerships that expand access to advanced coursework, career and technical education, dual enrollment, apprenticeships, broadband, teacher recruitment and housing, and full-service student supports. Rural school improvement must be tied to community renewal so that education, workforce development, local industry, agriculture, healthcare, and entrepreneurship work together to create opportunity where students live.

Safe Schools, Student Accountability & Restorative Discipline

Every student and educator deserves a school environment that is safe, orderly, and focused on learning. As Superintendent, I will support statewide strategies that help districts prevent violence, address disruptive behavior early, strengthen school climate, and give educators the tools they need to maintain effective classrooms. At the same time, discipline should correct behavior rather than unnecessarily push students out of school or into the criminal justice system. I will promote restorative practices, mentoring, conflict resolution, behavioral intervention, family engagement, and clear accountability while working with districts to reduce unnecessary suspensions, expulsions, and referrals to law enforcement for behavior that can be handled appropriately within the school community.

Parent Partnership & Educational Opportunity

Parents should be treated as essential partners in their children’s education, not as outsiders to the process. As Superintendent, I will promote greater transparency, stronger family-school communication, easier access to academic and school-performance information, and meaningful opportunities for parents to participate in educational decision-making. I will also support fair educational opportunity across traditional public schools, public charter schools, virtual programs, homeschooling, and other lawful education options while insisting on clear standards, responsible use of public funds, and accountability for student outcomes. School choice should expand opportunity for families without weakening our responsibility to provide strong public schools in every community.

Fiscal Responsibility, District Accountability & Effective Government

South Carolina families and taxpayers deserve to know that education dollars are being used effectively, transparently, and in ways that improve student outcomes. As Superintendent, I will strengthen financial oversight within the Department of Education, improve public reporting, support districts before fiscal or academic problems become crises, and demand clear accountability when state intervention is necessary. I will advocate for education budgets that prioritize classrooms, teachers, student services, career pathways, and proven programs while reducing waste, duplication, and unnecessary bureaucracy. When the state assumes greater control over a struggling district, the public should also receive clear benchmarks, regular progress reports, and a transparent pathway back to responsible local governance.
